Tele-remote Control a Data Solo and a Solomatic for BHPB - Dec 23, 2008

This project in particular presented us with many new challenges due to the various client requirements and requests some of which were:

  • The ability for the machines to be operated wirelessly from any location within the mine site infrastructure.
  • The control systems to incorporate the existing Sandvik GUI control panel.
  • The operator to have multiple views of the machine which could be pan tilted and zoomed as required.

To overcome these issues we used various technologies such as fiber optic control stations which were integrated into the existing network and a number of radios operating at specific frequencies were also utilised.  We designed and manufactured our video transmission system as part of the package also.

The final product we are proud to say has been operating on site for quite some time now and is relied upon heavily for the everyday operation of the mine.

Tele-remote Control a Sandvik Titon 600 Drill Rig via Radio Control for Mount Isa Mines - Qld - Dec 18, 2008

One of our most recent projects was to enable a Sandvik Titon 600 surface drill rig to operate via wireless remote rather than from the actual drill cabin itself and to have the capability of operating from various locations and distances.

We achieved this by building a purpose built trailer mounted operator cabin which combined comfort, safety and ample mobility.  The cabin has the capability of operating the drill anywhere from 50 metres to 2 kilometeres away.  This allows the operator to work in a safe and secure location rather than in a dangerous space where the drill may have to operate.

To duplicate the functionality of the machine we used our own joysticks, PLC modules and we specifically designed and manufactured the hydraulic manifold.  This system works off two primary radios of 900MHz and 5.7Ghz.

The smooth operation of the machine is achieved by marrying the electronic and hydraulic controls with multiple pan-tilt and zoom camera systems mounted strategically on various locations on the machine.

In our opinion the operator can view the drilling process far better than sitting in the actual cabin while most importantly maintaining operator safety.
